Steve Beresford has played with a huge number of improvisation’s most famous and prodigious musicians, such as Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Lol Coxhill, John Zorn, Otomo Yoshihide, David Toop and Hen Bennink. He was also a member with Gavin Bryars and Brian Eno in the Portsmouth Sinfonia. He has collaborated extensively with artist/musician Christian Marclay and is an active member of the London Improvisers Orchestra. He has also worked with a number of pop musicians and reggae artists including Ray Davis, The Slits, Prince Far I, Frank Chickens and Ted Milton. He was awarded a Paul Hamlyn award for artists in 2012.
The Merseyside Improvisors Orchestra was formed in 2016 by saxophonist Ged Barry and is the meeting place for Merseyside’s adventurous, creative, musicians. The orchestra is dedicated to improvised spontaneous and indeterminate music making, playing conducted improvisations, free improvisations and open form and experimental compositions.

Come and listen to the orchestra as part of The Open Circuit Festival for Interactive Traces, a live performance at FACT in Liverpool, featuring technological visualisations that accompany real-time musical composition. The performance includes dynamic visual scores, game-like interactions, and visualisations of human physiological data taken during the performance. Free, but booking required. https://www.fact.co.uk/whats-on/current/open-circuit-festival-interactive-traces.aspx
Open Circuit Festival is University of Liverpool’s festival of new music and audio visual performance.

This month playing with Michael Metcalfe, Merseyside Improvisers Orchestra drummer. Upstairs in the performance space at The Bluecoat, Liverpool.

Playing with Nick Branton, Michael Metcalfe and Jess Whillegan at The Well Space, Liverpool. The Well Space is artist studios that in the evenings put on gigs and events, interesting place to play and come.

Great to have the oportunity to play with old friends and bandmates from La Criatura. Always a pleasure to make music and hang out with them. I also guarantee you won’t hear a Christmas carol! If anyone happens to be in Madrid come on down.

Artist Natalia Black drew this sketch of Philip Jeck during the concert of him and The Merseyside Improvisers Orchestra at The Capstone last month. Amazing! With just a few lines she’s captured him as he plays.

Great to be playing again for the fantastic dancers from LIC for their monthly jam.
The last jam of the year!
A pleasure to be able to improvise with them.
Any musicians who are interested in attending, please contact me for details. The jam lasts 2 hours, 3pm til 5pm.
